Optimal Photonic Crystal Laser Designs via Superpotentials
CLEO: Fundamental Science, paper FF1J.7 (2024)
The question
Photonic crystal lasers commonly use either localized defect modes or extended Bloch modes. How can a design balance output power with a well-defined spatial mode and a narrow spectrum?
The work
This theoretical conference contribution introduces photonic crystal superpotentials as a way to address that trade-off. It proposes designs that combine the desired mode properties with high output power.
The work was presented at CLEO: Fundamental Science in 2024. The linked conference paper gives the technical formulation.
